da fezbet: Former Aston Villa forward Kevin Phillips has claimed that Steve Bruce should have rotated his XI for the team’s last couple of matches.
da realbet: Villa won three straight Championship fixtures between February 24 and March 10 to put themselves into contention for a top-two finish in England’s second tier.
Back-to-back defeats to Queens Park Rangers and Bolton Wanderers, however, have harmed the team’s challenge.
Villa are currently seven points off second-placed Cardiff City, who have a game in hand, and Phillips has said that Bruce should have made changes for the QPR fixture on March 13.
Phillips wrote in his column for the Express & Star:
“Bruce suggested he perhaps should have changed two or three players in the midweek fixture against QPR.
“It’s not a young squad he’s got there and he probably should have freshened it up. We’ve had that at Derby this season, a lot of these things become apparent after the event.”
Villa, whose supporters were particularly unhappy with the performance of one player at the weekend, lost 3-1 at home to QPR before suffering a 1-0 defeat at Bolton on Saturday afternoon.
Bruce’s side will attempt to return to winning ways when they travel to Hull City on March 31.
